Is Critical Illness Insurance the same as LTD? by Patricia Santucci

No, Critical Illness insurance is not the same as LTD. Both types of insurance provide you with financial support should you become disabled, however, Critical Illness insurance kicks in only if you are diagnosed with a “critical” illness. Policies vary as to what is included as a critical illness. Unlike LTD, with a critical illness policy, the benefits will be paid regardless of your ability to return to work, and the Critical Illness benefit is paid in one lump sum. The benefit is tax-free and receiving this benefit doesn’t affect the amount of disability benefits you may also be receiving. If you or someone you love has been denied their Critical Illness insurance benefit, call Santucci Personal Injury Law, and we can help you. (27)
