Can I receive social assistance and LTD benefits? by Patricia Santucci

Your insurance company will not reduce your LTD payments if you receive social assistance (through provincial welfare or disability programs). However, you must be aware of the reverse happening. If you receive LTD benefits, you likely will not qualify for social assistance or your social assistance payments will stop once you begin to receive LTD payments. Also, you may be expected to pay back the government for social assistance benefits you received from them for any period that you were receiving LTD payments. (40)
